program note
still, unsettled is mostly fragile. A childlike melody in A-major finds its way into the piece, colored by swirling clouds of textural string gestures such as tremolo string harmonics, harmonic glissandi, and ricochet bowing. Ultimately, the melody is rejected, resulting in an aggressive, distended burst. From this release of energy, the piece begins to settle, phasing out of tune and modulating before a final breath of release.
